  1. Interesting book! I never ran across it before. I'd seen Vestal before in 1950s science-fiction pulps.

    2. Enjoy! These are pretty high res scans, so click twice on each pic to get the highest res, download it and print it for future sea captains.

  4. My folks saved this from my childhood so I read it to my kids. They loved its energy and adventure, which is missing is many kids' books nowadays. They loved it so much I developed a repertoire of voices, sound effects, songs between pages turns, and they came to enjoy the embellishments as much as the story. I would do Captain Jim as over-the-top deep-voiced TV broadcaster, so my favorite page was where he's hiding behind the tree because it's the only page where he's quiet and my voice would get a rest.

  6. Thank you for this. I loved this book when I was a little kid in the '60's. I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for posting these pages. Now I can show my wife and kid what I was talking about!

  7. I had this book as a child of the 60's, back when well illustrated books had value(I'm 63 now). Reading it here made me realize just how much that little book had influenced me (I've been trying to find a copy for years!). I became a life long sailor with my wife and two children where we have lived on several boats and sailed many distant places throughout my short life. Thank you for sharing this treasure!
