Honey West is a fictional character created by Gloria and Forest Fickling . She first appeared in the 1957 book This Girl for Hire and would appear in 10 novels before being retired in the mid-60s .
West was one of the first female "private eyes" to ever appear on television. Anne Francis first played West in the second season episode of Burke's Law entitled "Who Killed the Jackpot?", broadcast on April 2, 1965, which led to this series being commissioned as a spin-off. It lacked the witty writing of Burke’s Law and only ran for 1 season. Of course, it didn't help that they pitted it against "Gomer Plye USMC" which was extremely popular at the time.
The producer, Aaron Spelling, liked the idea of a sexy female detective, and gave us three of ‘em a decade later with “Charlie’s Angels”.

Gold Key Comics released a one-shot Honey West comic book in June 1966. Here is one of the 2 stories from it. With script by Paul S. Newman, art by Jack Sparling, if this had been a few years earlier, it would no doubt have carried a Dell Four Color number.
