When you compare the price of recorded music , it was usually much more expensive 70 years ago. Albums go that name because they started out just as that, big albums containing heavy, very easily broken, 78 rpm discs. A single disc could only contain a few minutes of music, so several were packed together to form an album. Oneof the offerings in this 1942 ad, the "12 favorites by Guy Lombardo" probably was under 40 minutes in length and sold for $2.60, which would be $36 in today's prices. You'd find a similar , much more durable, product today for under $10 easily.
