Ib Melchoir made a good case of being Irwin Allen's victim when it came to the Lost In Space "NO PLACE TO HIDE" script.. but it seems Ib wasn't as pure as his snowy hair when it came to HIS story, ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS which was made into a film in 1964. In the same book in which his case against IA is presented, we learn that in the original story for RCOM, the marooned astronaut made a bike out of wreckage.
Sort of like this 1957 SF paperback, eh IB?

the bike appears on the 1956 hardcover as well |

from Ed Shifres' LOST IN SPACE THE TRUE STORY |

Of course, the first Mars Bikes appeared in 1952, but RAH's Stone Family weren't marooned on Mars. |
