Comic Book Short Stories-- THE SKYMAN

The Skyman ( not to be confused with DC's "Skyman") was created by Gardner Fox and artist Ogden Whitney in 1940 and was found in comics published by Columbia. The Skyman was Allen Turner, who was raised by his uncle to become "outstanding in mind and body." A brilliant scientist, he had no superpowers but did have a flying wing-shaped airplane, dubbed The Wing, that flew by the power of Earth's magnetic poles. With this and money inherited from his late uncle's will, he fought crime until his last appearance in 1949.

Whitney is probably best known as the creator of rotund 1960s character  Herbie Popnecker. If you  don't know who Gardner Fox was, how on earth did you get to this post?

Dell Four Color # 454 KRAZY KAT

Usually a Four Color One Shot appeared Before a regular series (a scheme made popular by DCs Showcase years later), but in this case, Krazy Kat's run of 5 issues ended before his FC appearance...maybe they had one issue's worth leftover. At any rate, here is one of the stories from that issue. Don Gormley is the artist, and is a little more mainstream than KK's creator, George Herriman. The original strip ended in 1944 with his death, but King  Features decided to ring some more cash out of it in the 50s with the Dell license. 

Also, for some strange reason, KK has had a sex change in the Dell version.

This title is false advertising.....

Rex The Wonder Dog

 Rex The Wonder Dog had a fairly long run with DC Comics in the 50s.




Apparently not only was Rex capable of human sapient thought and perception, he and his master were able to travel through time too.
